More than 100 years ago, a group of forward-thinking Winneshiek County citizens had a vision: to build a hospital to support a healthy, vibrant and lasting community for future generations. In 2005, Mayo Clinic Health System joined in that vision. Today, the original hospital has evolved to become WinnMed and the two organizations, working together, further the legacy of providing quality and compassionate care.
WinnMed is the third largest Critical Access Hospital in Iowa. With an active medical staff of over 35 Mayo Clinic Health System and Gundersen Health System physicians, and clinics in Decorah, Ossian and Mabel, Minnesota, WinnMed is the largest and most specialized hospital in the region.
WinnMed has earned The Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval® for accreditation by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission’s national standards for health care quality and safety in hospitals.
