Physical therapy is therapy to help reduce pain and restore movement and function in individuals dealing with injury, disability, or disease. Physical therapists work with people of all ages, including newborns, children and adults. Physical therapists perform a thorough evaluation to determine and individualized treatment plan based on the needs of each patient. Treatments may include therapeutic exercise to increase range of motion, flexibility, strength and endurance; manual treatments including mobilization and manipulations; functional training; and modalities for treatment of pain inflammation, or edema.
Occupational therapists have a primary focus on functional activities that individuals complete during their daily lives. Occupational therapists assist individuals with the use of adaptive equipment, compensatory techniques and alternative methods to complete activities of daily living more independently.
At WinnMed, speech pathologists treat dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), and provide stroke rehabilitation, therapy for fluency disorders such as stuttering, and, in collaboration with the ENT, treatment for voice disorders that plague people who spend their lives over-using their voices (teacher, singers, etc.)
Speech pathologists hold at least a master’s degree and are certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. A speech pathologist can be trained to work in a medical setting (such as a hospital, nursing home, or rehabilitation center), or in the academic setting, (the school system or at the collegiate level).
A certified athletic trainer is a qualified health care professional educated and experienced in the management of health care problems associated with physical activity. In cooperation with physicians and other health care personnel, the certified athletic trainer functions as an integral member of the health care team in secondary schools, colleges and universities, professional sports programs, sports medicine clinics, and other health care settings.

If you wish to continue your exercises after you have been discharged from therapy, talk to your physical or occupational therapist about our Back to Action program. Back to Action is a program that allows you to continue using WinnMed’s equipment to help build strength and endurance after your therapy has ended.
Cardiac Rehab is a specialized exercise and education program for people who have experienced a heart attack, by-pass surgery, stent placement, valve replacement, live with chronic stable angina, live with heart failure, have had a heart transplant or are currently on an LVAD.

Our multidisciplinary team, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology, provides intensive and extensive care for individuals who have sustained a stroke, head injury, spinal cord injury, brain tumor, and other neurological disorders.
We create an individualized treatment plan for each patient through all phases of care – including acute care while in the hospital or long term care facility, to outpatient care after discharge, to home. Our goal is to help each individual achieve his or her maximum potential and functional independence.
