For patients who are having a total joint replacement, the WinnMed Joint Expectations class will describe how to prepare for surgery, as well as challenges that will be experienced during recovery. Taught by a nurse, a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, and a case worker/social worker, patients will learn about pre-surgery instructions, what to expect during the hospital stay and suggestions for a successful rehabilitation and recovery after discharge. Attending a Joint Expectations class is considered part of your care and the education process, and we recommend you attend class 2-4 weeks prior to your surgery. Classes are offered regularly; talk to your surgeon about which class is appropriate for you. We encourage you to bring a family member or friend to the class to participate in your recovery.
Home health care can be provided to you in your own home following your surgical procedure. Services are dependent on your unique situation. Home care visits may include nurses who will help you by offering education on, and monitoring of, your condition; home health aides who provide assistance with personal cares, such as bathing or hair washing, and a limited amount of housekeeping assistance; and therapists to assist you with strengthening and enhancing the safety and accessibility of your home environment.
