WinnMed is expanding access to primary care with the addition of Samantha Storts, D.O., to its medical team. Beginning in late August, Dr. Storts will provide family medicine and obstetric care and provide inpatient services as a hospitalist.
After receiving her bachelor’s degree from Luther College in 2019, Dr. Storts attended Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her family medicine residency at Iowa Lutheran Family Medicine Residency, part of UnityPoint Health in Des Moines. Fluent in Spanish, Dr. Storts also served as a medical interpreter at the Decorah Free Clinic while at Luther College.
Returning to Decorah with her husband and young daughter, Dr. Storts is excited to care for patients in the community where she began her path to medicine. She says, “I like to get to know my patients outside of their health concerns, including their families, interests, and goals. I believe that knowing a patient is more than just knowing their health history.” She and her family look forward to spending time on the trails and rivers, and exploring the natural landscape of northeast Iowa.
Professionally, Dr Storts provides full-spectrum family medicine, obstetric and hospitalist care, and has special interests in women’s health, prenatal care, underserved populations, disease prevention/management, hospital medicine and community health. She says, “I believe in a shared decision-making approach, partnering with patients to create a plan that helps them achieve their health goals. I think it is very important for a patient and their physician to work together as a team.”
At WinnMed, family medicine physicians and advanced practice providers deliver primary care services in Decorah and through outreach locations in Ossian, Mabel, and the Luther College campus clinic. Family medicine is a medical specialty focused on providing comprehensive, continuous care for individuals and families of all ages and health conditions.
