Winneshiek Medical Center is pleased to welcome Kelsey Huinker, RN, as the director of Emergency Services at Winneshiek Medical Center.
Huinker received her nursing education from Northeast Iowa Community College and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing to Master of Science in Nursing – Clinical Nurse Leader degree from Chamberlain University. Most recently, she has served in the WMC Emergency department as a staff RN, and has past experience in cardiac nursing in Mason City, Iowa, where she served as Team Leader/Charge Nurse.
Huinker says, “I love the fast pace and wide variety of patients we serve in the Emergency department at WMC. The 24/7 service is a vital asset to our community. With each patient, we strive to provide an unparalleled experience when it comes to their care. I am thrilled to take on this new role and to continue working alongside the staff that help make our Emergency department thrive.” She adds, “I currently reside in New Hampton with my family. I enjoy being active, playing any kind of sports, being outside, drinking coffee, and of course making memories with family and friends!”
In a year’s time, nearly 8,000 patients sought care through Winneshiek Medical Center’s Emergency/Urgent Care services, resulting in over 12,000 patient encounters. The Emergency department is equipped with state-of-the-art trauma equipment and is staffed by a dedicated, experienced team of physicians, nurses, paramedics and registration staff. Physician services at the Emergency department are provided by Mayo Clinic Health System and the ED is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. WMC’s Urgent Care service, a convenient alternative when your regular clinic is closed or you can’t see you doctor as soon as you would like, is located in the Emergency department, and is open weekday evenings and weekend days.
Kathy Moritz, chief nursing officer, Winneshiek Medical Center, says, “Kelsey has been a valued member of our Emergency team for the past two years. This experience, coupled with her past experience in a cardiac unit, will be a great asset to the Emergency department. Kelsey has a strong interest in leadership and process improvement as well, which will benefit the nursing care delivered in the emergency and urgent care setting.”
