WinnMed is pleased to welcome Megan Slattery, D.O., to its medical team. Joining the practice the end of August, Dr. Slattery provides family medicine and obstetric services, and she cares for inpatients during their hospital stay as a hospitalist.
An Iowa State University alum and Iowa native, Dr. Slattery attended medical school at A.T. Still University-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri. She then completed her Family Medicine residency at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines.
Inspired by the unique relationships and continuity of care that rural medicine offers, Dr. Slattery chose to bring her skills to northeast Iowa. During her visit to WinnMed, she was impressed by both the organization’s commitment to high-quality care and the community’s support of its local health system. “When I first visited WinnMed, the dedication among staff and the genuine support for the health system from the community were evident,” says Dr. Slattery. “I could immediately see myself as part of the team, and I am grateful to be joining a health system that shares a commitment to providing high-quality care close to home.” She adds, “It’s an added bonus that family isn’t too far away!”
Outside of work, Dr. Slattery enjoys spending time with her fiancée and her dog, running, biking, hiking, reading, and cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones.
Professionally, Dr Slattery provides full-spectrum family medicine, obstetric and hospitalist care. She has special interests in incorporating exercise and nutrition into health planning, as well as providing community education on health and wellness. She says, “I provide care with a whole-patient approach, recognizing there are many factors that play a role in our health and wellbeing. I work with my patients to address and meet their health goals, using evidence-based information to provide education and guide care.”
WinnMed’s family medicine team provides primary care services in Decorah, as well as outreach locations in Ossian, Mabel, and the Luther College campus clinic. Family medicine focuses on comprehensive, lifelong care for patients of all ages and health needs. As a patient’s primary healthcare provider, family medicine clinicians emphasize prevention, manage chronic conditions, promote overall wellness, and coordinate care with specialists when necessary.
