WinnMed marked an important milestone during National Hospital Week in May with a private, internal dedication of its newly acquired property at the corner of Ridgewood Drive and Montgomery Street in Decorah. The building, previously known as the Keystone Building and originally home to Calvary Baptist Church, will now be called the Huebner Building and serve as the home for WinnMed Home Health & Hospice services.

WinnMed purchased the building in July 2025 to address the need for additional space to support their growing service lines. Keystone AEA leases the building’s lower level, maintaining its presence and services in the community.

The dedication ceremony included a blessing of the space led by Hospice Chaplain Laura Gentry, who reflected on the building’s meaningful past and future. She spoke to the enduring presence of compassion and care within its walls – from its origins as a place of worship to its new role supporting patients and families through hospice care.

Nancy Haberichter, Director of Home Health & Hospice, provided the history and growth of hospice services in Winneshiek County. She shared that the program began in 1986 when a group of volunteers developed HealthLand Home Care and Hospice of Winneshiek County. In 1994, the services merged with (then) Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital to create a hospital-based service line.

Haberichter also highlighted the lasting impact of the Huebner family on local hospice services. “Bonnie Huebner received hospice care at the end of her life. Following her passing, her husband, Dan Huebner, was so moved by the compassionate care his wife received that he chose to support the program financially,” she said. “In 2005, WinnMed – then Winneshiek Medical Center – renovated space in the facility to create dedicated Home Health & Hospice offices, a project made possible through Dan Huebner’s generosity.”

She added, “Though our location has changed, the Huebner family’s gift continues to be honored in the naming of our new location as the Huebner Building.”

WinnMed Hospice provides specialized care focused on comfort, compassion, and quality of life for individuals facing terminal illness. Services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and extend to patients and families across Allamakee, Clayton, Chickasaw, Fayette, Howard, and Winneshiek counties.

Through an interdisciplinary approach, the hospice team works to ensure each patient receives personalized care that prioritizes comfort and dignity—treating the whole person, not just the disease.
